Message from TARA:

This year The Arabian Reading Association (TARA) is celebrating its 15th anniversary of providing a high quality literacy conference for educators in the Middle East and beyond.

However, the conference has faced problems with scheduling at our regular venue; the Crowne Plaza this year. Two different dates picked for the 2010 conference conflicted with major events in Bahrain and no other date could be found.

After significant discussion, we have decided to combine the 2010 TARA Conference with the Teachers of Young Children (TOYC) conference to hold a TARA/TOYC Conference in Saudi Arabia.  We sincerely regret that this change of venue may not be convenient for all our loyal TARA participants.  We are truly sorry for that.

The details for the TARA/TOYC conference are:

Venue:  International Schools Group, Dhahran Campus,

Date: Thursday, March 11, 2010

Time:  8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Keynote speaker:  Steven Layne, author and presenter

Two strands:

TOYC:  Differentiation with DAP: Birth through 8 years

TARA:  Literacy: The Hope for Tomorrow: Junior hi and high school

Cost: 250 Saudi Riyals

Maximum Participants:  450

Teacher presenters:  Applications for teacher presenters will be available on the web site and must be submitted no later than January 25th, 2010.  Each teacher presenter must send handouts for a conference booklet at this time also.  Please bring “hands-on” ideas for teachers to take home.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER AT LEAST 7 DAYS BEFORE THE CONFERENCE.  NO WALK-INS CAN BE ALLOWED.

Join us next year in Bahrain, February 24-26, 2011.

TARA evolved from the desire of a small group of educators to provide a forum for literacy education in the region.  TARA 1994, the first conference of its kind for the Gulf area, had over 350 attendees from around the Middle East.  Since that humble beginning, TARA has continued to provide an opportunity for educators to celebrate literacy and to grow professionally through the annual conference.  Attendance has multiplied as well, with TARA 2005 topping 450 delegates, and TARA 2008 reaching more than 700 delegates.

We are affiliated with the International Reading Association. Our mission is to promote literacy in both Arabic and English.

TARA is non-profit, and all members of the committee are volunteers.
