Gail Carson Levine, Sept 2010 www.gailcarsonlevine.com
Author of Newbury Honor Book winner "Ella Enchanted"
Keynote:
Gail Carson Levine will share her story of becoming a reader first and a writer much, much later. From early childhood on she loved fairytales and fantasy, as children still do. She’ll discuss the appeal of these timeless stories and explain how she adapts them into novels and picture books for today’s children.

Breakout session:

Gail Carson Levine will discuss her nonfiction book for children, Writing Magic - how she came to write it and how she still uses it in writing workshops. She’ll reveal the origins of several of her novels and provide a sneak preview of upcoming books.

  • Reading like a Writer

The writing you get out of your students can only be as good as the classroom literature that surrounds and sustains it. This workshop will help teachers give their students a precious gift; books and authors to use as models for their own writing. Participants will return to their classrooms with a structure to teach students how to Read like a Writer and an extensive bibliography of mentor texts to support the Lucy Calkins writing curriculum
